Something New was a weapon exclusive to the Solstice of Heroes event, but since the release of Monument of Triumph, the weapon is now available permanently through the Tenet of Bravery vendor at the Tower.

How good is Something New
While Something New definitely isn’t a must-have, the weapon does offer some solid perk rolls for multiple areas of the game.
In PvE, Something New functions better as a complement to a powerful build than as an ad-clear weapon. However, with the current meta, this role really isn’t necessary. Many top builds either rely on an exotic weapon or function without a specific weapon requirement, placing Something New in a niche spot.
Something New falls into similar territory in The Crucible, albeit for different reasons. While 120RPM hand cannons are known for their high range and relatively high damage-per-bullet, Something New offers little that year-round options do not.

- Perk 1: Feeding Frenzy, Demolitionist, Rapid Hit, Subsistence, To the Pain, Snapshot Sights, Elemental Capacitor.
- Perk 2: Headstone, Wellspring, Kill Clip, Frenzy, Explosive Payload, Precision Instrument, Vorpal Weapon.
- Origin Trait: Dream Work, Nadir Focus.

For PvE, our primary goal is to make the weapon feel smoother to use. As a result, we’ll opt for Fluted Barrel, Tactical Mag, and either a handling or stability masterwork (purely dependent on your preference).
Demolitionist is a rare sight in the third column, so we’ll opt for that. This is especially strong when combined with Frenzy in the final column, which increases all the stats that matter.

For our Crucible roll, we’ll start with Fluted Barrel, Accurized Rounds, and a range masterwork to increase the range a bit more while also gaining passive stability and handling buffs. Rapid Hit is a solid pick for the third column, significantly increasing stability and reload speed. Finally, Precision Instrument is our pick for the final column, allowing the weapon to kill with 2 critical hits and 1 body shot against all Resilience levels.
How to get Something New
Something New is no longer tied to the Solstice event. As Seasonal events are no more, Bungie has provided a permanent method to acquire past Seasonal exclusives: The Tenet of Bravery vendor at the Tower.
